ABOUT
&AETHER emerged from experience
My background began in the sciences, with psychology at its center and an early fascination with what shapes the way people think, behave, and relate to one another.
I went on to study law and began my professional career in New York. After moving to Europe, I joined a think tank working in public diplomacy, and later founded my own political advisory company. Much of that work involved governments, negotiation, and navigating very different cultures, interests, and points of view.
I also founded a cultural platform centered on arts, culture, and ideas, bringing people from very different worlds together for meaningful conversation and exchange.
The settings changed, but the underlying interest remained remarkably consistent: people, what moves them, and what becomes possible when we look beyond the most obvious version of things.
A DEEPER INQUIRY
Intuition had been part of how I moved through all of these different worlds. I relied on it in my work and in understanding people, even in environments where decisions were expected to be entirely rational.
Over time, my interest in human behavior brought me more deeply back into psychology and into formal postgraduate training in psychotherapy. Alongside it, years of studying astrology, shamanic traditions, energy work, and other esoteric systems gave me additional frameworks for exploring things I had often understood intuitively.
Psychology offered one language for understanding the mind, behavior, and the patterns that shape us. Psychotherapy brought greater attention to what lies outside conscious awareness. Astrology introduced symbolism, cycles, and timing. Esoteric traditions opened up other ways of engaging with aspects of experience that are less easily named.
I became less interested in choosing between these worlds than in what became possible when they were allowed to sit alongside one another.
&AETHER
I’m Maria C. Choupres, founder of &AETHER. I hold a BSc in Psychology and a JD in Law, and am currently completing a Master’s in Psychotherapy.
&AETHER grew from bringing together these different ways of understanding human experience — scientific and psychological thinking, intuition, and years of study across astrology, shamanic traditions, energy work, and other esoteric systems.
It isn't a method so much as a way of working. One that allows the psychological and the intuitive to sit alongside one another, and makes room for symbolism, pattern, timing, and what may be happening beneath conscious awareness.
At its center is a simple idea: not everything shaping a life is immediately visible.
where the work begins
A life can continue to work long after your relationship to it has begun to change.
This is often where people arrive at &AETHER. Nothing is necessarily wrong. Their career may still be going well, their relationships may still matter deeply, and from the outside, very little may appear to have changed.
But internally, the old answers aren't quite working anymore.
You may find yourself questioning a career you worked hard to build, wondering whether a relationship still belongs in the life you want now, or realizing that the ambitions that drove you for years don't have quite the same hold on you.
You don't necessarily know what you want instead. You just know that something has changed.
The work begins there.
ON THE NAME
Aether is an ancient idea.
In classical thought, it was the fifth element — beyond earth, air, fire, and water — associated with the heavens and the invisible space beyond the terrestrial world.
I have always been drawn to the idea of something present beyond what can immediately be seen.
Because much of what shapes a life works in much the same way.
We see the decisions. The relationships. The careers. The changes.
But beneath them are patterns, instincts, beliefs, timing, memory, and ways of knowing that may be harder to see — yet no less influential.
&AETHER is an invitation to look there.
